JUNE 2018

June has landed and summer is well under way now and it won’t be long before we are passing the Summer Equinox !     21st June the longest day and we don’t seem to have hit the dizzy heights of summer temperatures yet…..well not up north in Yorkshire at least !

Silchester Brownies are busy planning their 25th Anniversary and this included a badge design comprising of 12 colours. We have trimmed it back to the statutory 10 colours and production is underway. If their party ends up being as much fun as their badge design they are all in for a treat. Congratualtions to Silchester.

It’s that time of year again when the National Scout Pedal Cars Races take place in Manchester. Sounds like a crazy event and one worth going to see if you’re local and may be pick up one of their commemorative badges.
Banff and Buchan Girl Guide Association have planned a County Coastal Camp and their badge depicts a lovely coastal scene and we hope that everyone who attends has a fantastic time up there in Aberdeenshire.
Preparations for WSJ 2019 are well under way now and I mentioned last month about a special 15 year old scout from Nottingham who contacted us back in January about her plans and her request for assistance. We have no prior connections to Emily and the email came right out of the blue.

Emily has been chosen to represent the Weavers Explorers Unit in Calverton and her County of Nottinghamshire to go to the World Scout Jamboree 2019 which is being held in West Virginia, USA. The only proviso is that she needs to raise the £3,600 to cover her cost of travel and accommodation.

As an avid badge collector herself she thought that with 50,000 other scouts from around the world at the Jamboree that it would give her an opportunity to make new friends and trade some badges.  All she needed was some badges…..but not just any badges. Emily wanted her own unique and bespoke woven badges and so she set too and designed her very own badge.

Emily contacted numerous badge makers including Ensign Badges and it was a surprise to say the least to be asked for something for nothing. But I admired her spirit, her desire to get ahead and to find someone that could deliver what she wanted. It just goes to show that you will never know unless you try !

We decided to back Emily and production of her badges is under way. The pressure now is for her to succeed and raise the funds required and to make sure that she gets her seat on that aeroplane.
I will let you know her progress as time goes by. Good Luck Emily.
